Applications

At the mill. Interleaving between wraps and between stacked coils. Top and bottom protection on banded lifts.

At the service center. Separator sheets between cut-to-size sheet and plate, and between mixed loads. Narrow separator and edge strips. Header and cover sheets.

At the fabricator. Layer protection between finished and formed parts through handling, storage, and shipment.

Construction

Two things do the work. The laminated board carries the load and takes the hit, cushioning edge contact and preventing the scuffing and denting that happens when steel rides against steel or against a bare pallet. Caliper is selected for the weight and the handling, and heavier constructions run up to .200 inches at five plies.

The polyethylene extruded onto both faces keeps moisture off the surface during storage and transit. Where the application calls for an active corrosion inhibitor rather than a barrier alone, VCI treatment is available as an option through an outside partner.

Print is available in two colors on one side, which most customers use for grade marks, coil identification, or handling instructions.

Coating Control

Most laminators buy coated board from a mill or an outside coater. Polyethylene is extruded on our own line, on the same floor that laminates the board and cuts the sheet, so coat weight is set for the application. A heavier barrier on the coil-facing side or a different surface for stacking is a process change here rather than a supplier change.

Certification

Fibre Converters is certified to BRCGS Packaging Materials Issue 6 and ISO 9001:2015. Both certificates are on our Key Documents page.

Process conditions are recorded against each production order, so a finished sheet traces back to the rolls, the adhesive batch, and the run settings that produced it.

Design Support

Our design group and test lab work the application before the first order. The lab conditions samples in an air circulating oven, humidity chamber, and water immersion, then tests basis weight, caliper, internal bond, stiffness, edge crush, blocking, and water vapor transmission. Prototype sheets come off a digital cutting table in ten business days.
